Heal
This page is dedicated to supporting the emotional and physical well being of officers injured in the line of duty, as well as those around them who are affected.
Words written by professionals from the medical community will be posted here.
Heal Emotionally
We desire to obtain a full range of services, where the injured officer and those affected by their injury can benefit from professional and compassionate care. Police work is stressful and many officers witness more trauma in a week than most citizens will see in a lifetime.
The National Institute of Health and Safety ranks law enforcement officers among the highest at risk for suicide, divorce and alcoholism. Add the stress of an injury and a traumatic event in which they become the victim and we believe the psychological impact can be devastating. An officer may be reluctant to seek help, as this trauma is not foreign to them and actually part of their job description. Therapy has to be wanted and not assigned, but know the resources are here if you desire them.
Heal Physically
An injury can affect so many parts of the body elsewhere physically, as can the stress and burden of the situation it creates. In Kayvan Hazrati’s case, his injury was sustained to the head, but after the weeks of rehabilitation other symptoms arose.
Along with the expected repercussions of a left temporal lobe injury such as speech, physical and emotional impairments; His vision was affected, he had edema (swelling) in the spine, his shoulder ached and his finger tips were numb. The entire body needs attention and review, not just the immediate area in which the injury was inflicted on the officer.
